Ever wondered what goes on when the proprietor of secondhand record shop at the butt end of the world chucks in the towel and goes back to having a life??
…. 20 crates (count ’em) of the record accumulation I’m currently processing will drop on the 4th of July, 2021, at Restore, 7 Gordon Street, Dunedin Central…
…here’s a random crate…
…ah, crap….let me try that again….
….the stack of 70 crates featured in last week’s post now sits at 72 with more to come from inside the house….
…we’ll be adding more crates to Restore’s stock every week for some time to come…
…I’ve agreed to come out of record-shop-retirement to help a friend prepare his record accumulation before he donates it to charity…
…he had been moving towards setting up his own retail operation but his circumstances have changed and he’s decided to head in a different direction…
…and the reason I’m almost speechless?…
…well…
…there’s some in the kitchen….
…theres some in this part of the main hallway….
…there’s some in the living room…
…there’s some in the hallway that goes to the second toilet and bathroom….
…there’s some right down the other part of the main hallway…
….there’s some in this bedroom…
…and there’s some in this bedroom….
…there’s also some in the master bedroom and the laundry that I didn’t photograph….
….then there’s the garage….
….it’s a four car garage….
…before I’d taken these pic’s we’d already cleared some work space in the front half of the garage….condensing and stacking as we went to create this….
…a forty two crate wall of vinyl….
…I’d worked through some boxes the previous week to access how long it will take to clear…
…all sorted to price specific crates ready for stickering….
…(three to four crates an hour with my friends assistance…in case you were wondering)…
…price brackets of $5/$10/$20 with a smattering of $30….
…(anything over $30 will go online, with the proceeds after fees also going to the charity)…
…then we cleared most of the hallway to take the wall to 70…
….I’d guesstimate that this is more or less 5000 discs…
…it’s probably about half of what is in the house….
…it’s a third as much again as what I used to have in the shop at any one time…(we all remember the shop, right?)…
…it’s going to take a whole bunch of Saturdays to get thru them all….
…we have processed 16 full crates to date…
….the recipient charity shop will be making space available for 20 crates…
…those 20 crates will be getting restocked for many months to come…
…(for those of you that were holding your breaths between posts)….
…been tardy with communicating with the outside world, but I have an excuse or two….
…have been focused on the above…
…have been adjusting to new work hours and getting my head round larger, heavier machinery to operate…
…have been trying to assimilate the fact the my local city council representatives think “consultation” means telling me how it’s gonna be and not answering a single question I have put to them re:- them screwing the resale value of my property by sticking a sewer thru half of it….
…(am supposed to be typing a lengthy letter to “them” instead of blogging!)….
…being asked to come out of retirement from a certain area of my skill base to help someone organise a huge donation to charity….
…being asked to contribute to two (count ’em) compilation comics after god knows how long away from black and white creations….
….but I am still here.
…here’s a wee sneak at what this piece might be heading towards when done…
…bones still need to be re-burned, but I think this should elucidate the matter somewhat….
