Level 3.2

…remember these?….

…they moved on to be….

…and….

…they eventually became…

….repurposed as a New Zealand Music Month vid’ for Dee’s wonderfully catchy tune, “shit fly”…written to celebrate the delightful cloud of short-lived flying things that hover round the outhouse out at Aramoana….

…a fitting end for nearly 100 brooches presented in a custom built carry case for a pre-xmas market thing that didn’t happen….

…(damn…thought I had a bunch of photos of the production lay out…flies all arranged on trays with the “colour guide” post it notes that I used to ensure that none of the flies have the same colour scheme)…

…er…

…here’s some post video shots…..

…maybe they’ll have another market this coming Xmas….

…if we’re allowed out by then….

2017

…last sunset for the weather tree……things were built……shit got real……Tiny Pieces of Eight played under a bridge… …well, next to a bridge, but still my gig of the year….

…then Dee bought me a kitty…

…so I gave kitty an octopus…

…and wrapped it up…

…and gave it back to Dee….

…happy new year….

…soon.

New Zealand’s Native Clematis

…in my experience, is usually flowering at the top of a tree….you can see it from afar, but it is too high up to appreciate at close quarters…let alone photograph…img_4221img_4220img_4224img_4225

…this lot is growing in sand dunes on low scrub bushes…

…mmm, clematis.

Wassat

…in the water there…img_3484

….oh…a bloody great leopard seal…img_3485…never seen one in the water before…let alone on the harbour side of the spit…and I’m sure the bugger was sizing us up as snacks….

….I think I’ll stick to dodging sea lions on the beach….img_3486

…female hauled up beyond big male pictured above after lunch…(his flipper in the foreground)….img_3488…or viewing fur seals from above…img_3490

….mmmm…pinnipeds.

…(if we’d seen a sea elephant we’d have the whole set!).

Aramoana Sunset

…the sun going down behind Mt. Cargill…IMG_7960IMG_7961IMG_7965IMG_7963

…and Dee standing in it…

…listening to the young mullet (we think) jumping to catch bugs….

….like standing in the rain without getting wet…

…then a royal spoon bill flew low in line with the other side of the inlet all lit golden like a painting on silk….

…shit.

Pinnipedic Extravaganza

…seals at the head of the Aramoana Mole…IMG_7358IMG_7359…and at the Northern end of Victory Beach….baby seals left to there own devices whilst their mothers fish…IMG_7417IMG_7418IMG_7422…meanwhile back at Aramoana’s Shelley Beach….large male sealion at rest…IMG_7562…sea lion pup, Janet, practicing challenge charges in the dunes…IMG_7564…whilst mother, Pattie, and another female sealion take a nap…IMG_7566…next morning, Pattie & Janet napping on the beach…..IMG_7569IMG_7571…later that same day…Janet most definitely not napping…IMG_7577IMG_7578IMG_7579IMG_7582IMG_7583….and to top the day off…..

….”lunch” with unidentified female sealion….IMG_7587 (1)IMG_7587IMG_7588 (1)IMG_7588IMG_7589 (1)IMG_7589IMG_7594 (1)IMG_7594IMG_7595 (1)IMG_7595IMG_7599 (1)IMG_7599

….I had the Croissant with Camembert.

This Is Not The Bottle I Thought It Was

…beach walking at Aramoana…had to “tsk” when I sighted a discarded wine bottle at the high water mark on the harbour edge of the spit…

…was pleasantly surprised to find this…IMG_7032 …McGavins brewery was est.1882 (as Union brewery) and fizzled out after a merger with other local brewers in 1923…IMG_7033

… so this bottle has been sitting in the sand dune waiting to be eroded onto the beach….or been floating around (and around and around) for some considerable time….

…hey!…dispose of your festive empties responsibly folks…

…seasons felicitations one and all.
