Pinnipedic Extravaganza

…seals at the head of the Aramoana Mole……and at the Northern end of Victory Beach….baby seals left to there own devices whilst their mothers fish……meanwhile back at Aramoana’s Shelley Beach….large male sealion at rest……sea lion pup, Janet, practicing challenge charges in the dunes……whilst mother, Pattie, and another female sealion take a nap……next morning, Pattie & Janet napping on the beach…..…later that same day…Janet most definitely not napping…….and to top the day off…..

….”lunch” with unidentified female sealion….

….I had the Croissant with Camembert.

On The Way Back From Invercargill

…I nipped thru the Catlins…

…Slope Point , southern most tip of the South Island, it’s bloody windy there…

…all the time, judging by the trees….

…Waipapa Point is further back down the coast towards Inver’s & is no less exposed…

…with the added attraction of adjacent pinnipeds…. 

…they’re stacked like cord wood on the beach….…and this one, upwind from the “pile” & myself, definitely smelt the worst…

…mmm…pinnipeds.

Trip To Marineville

…aaah, the seventies…

…when it was ok to keep seals in your back yard…

….mainly for the eggs….

….and sometimes in colour….

…formal dress optional…

…and, I’m sorry sir, this is a non -smoking good time….

 

….aaah, simpler times when we all lived on a mystical island in the middle of a kid’s paddle boat pond…

 

 

 

 

….(found these in a record sleeve…holiday snaps from Napier’s Marine land in New Zealand…circa 1972…read this article once about a second hand record dealer that found all sorts of cool stuff in record sleeves…like money, joints and tabs of LSD….all I get is pictures of seals….

Oh to be a seal

…without annoying bendy appendages it is so much easier to relax…

…although with hands you can wave the flies away from your nose….

… and legs could walk your sluggish ass down to the dentist every once and awhile.
 … so that’s a “no” to being a seal…
