..ferris wheel of dooom…

…under-bed roll out plans and a snailtopuss….
….variety is the spice of sketchbook….
…top is more snailtopusses (ammonites if you will)…
…bottom is idea that is currently getting a test paint in paintbook (wallpaper rolls already sourced)….
…and some sort of Ferris Wheel whose origins and purpose escape me….did seek out a youtube tutorial to do wire framing for the skeletons and made a couple….one of which ended up in that snow globe thing I did a few months back…
…(must make some more)…
….or not, depending on how much kids craft clay you have….
….this stuff cost $2 at the dump shop and I’m assuming that the previous owner had two packs and ditched the unopened one when they found how difficult it was to work with and how “dead-fish” slimy it was to handle….
..but hey, I had an extra day off presented to me at short notice and couldn’t think of anything better to do with said day, so I persevered….
…(the skeleton is from an earlier “sculpting” session…I suck at 3D….but give it a bash every once in awhile to see if I’ve acquired the skill whilst not practicing….er….that’s a nope on the skill acquisition by osmosis thing…)
…the small white ball at the front is the “change” from the 6 pack…
…the skeleton will be included in the final piece…
..(oh yes, there is a final piece)…
…back to a half day of work tomorrow at 1pm….
…(wish I had more clay for tomorrow morning)…
…the distinct lack of articulated folk art skeletons in New Zealand has led me to experiment with clay and wire….
…early results are somewhat arthritic…
…but I’m working on it!….
…(…have to admit that this side ramble into 3d stuff is actually a direct result of wanting, but not being able to acquire an army of lego skeletons in short order….not sure why said army needs to be mine…probably just ‘cos…)…..
…(when in need, try making your own)….
…it’s the 21st of December and I haven’t yet posted pictures of this years Xmas album display…
…it was my good friend Dee’s only “chore” when she gave me the afternoon off…and she did a damn fine job….
…this years Xmas record sales have equaled last years (3) and with a half promise on another, we may, for the fourth year running, be about to experience continued growing returns from this emerging market…
…speaking of “damn”… the figures for my nativity scene haven’t been as popular as I thought they would be…maybe I should stop referring to them as Xmas desecrations rather than Xmas decorations….
…(no photo of them as a group, sorry, but unlike the very well behaved cows and sheep, the my ass wouldn’t stay still for the shot)….
..(badum tisss)…
…and finally…a framed, needle point piccy from 1958, of a little dog I got from the dump as an Xmas pressies for myself….
…(yes, I have since taken the time to clean the seagull poo off of it)….
…jingle bells.
….poking around out at Aramoana in the weekend…
…came across this, less than savoury, artefact beside the board walk that goes out into the salt marsh….
… thought it was a rabbit till I noticed the fish tail…
…hmmm…
…does the fact that its spine has popped out make it an invertebrate?…
…not sure where to start with who to ask to identify this…..
You know how sometimes you get a graphic idea in your head and it HAS to come out…..
…twice…
….thankfully the “tentaclely” period was brief, although the 50s/60s wallpaper inspired patterns are a recurring theme… the second attempt nearly blew a few valves… Drawing till 1 in the morning then getting back to it the next day, only to find that you can’t quite remember which bit of tentacle is attached which…. had to go thru the whole damn thing like a kids activity book maze and number the each bit!…. shoulda taken pics… it looked like paint by numbers!
…er… and its probably worth mentioning that HP Lovecraft mentions Dunedin, NZ in his marvelous historical document “The Call Of Cthulhu”…. something about drums booming in the surrounding hills… was fully expecting the big guy to turn up yesterday…. had a sacrifice picked out and everything!
*sigh*
Yay….. the world didn’t end and the cults are already ditching their idols down at my local refuse recycling depot…
Ladies & Gentlemen…. Today was a good day to go down the “Tip-shop”…..
O.K…. i’ll admit that only three of the “offerings” were secured today (apple, pear, banana) but I feel justified in “accumulating” the rest, over time, for an such an occasion as this….
