Sketchy 122

…(casually wanders in from stage left and sticks something on wordpress like there’s been no gap in his content)….

…(will probably make some lame excuse like “I’ve been busy with the transition from finishing one large piece to starting another…and I quit my job”…or similar)….

….sorry for the gap in transmission team….

….I’ve been busy with the transition from finishing one large piece to starting another…

….and I quit my job….

…(can’t say I didn’t warn you)….

Paintbook 59/60

…kinda in that uneasy space between finishing something large and trying to start the next one…

…have a screed of notes and colour guides developing around my drawing table in preparation…

…was going to post some more sketchbook only to discover that I’d re-scanned the last page posted thinking it was the one I wanted to put up now…

…had to finish the above (abandoned since January) to get back into paintbook without guilt….

…now I want to do a “good” version to hang!….

…(ah…there’s that next rabbit hole…)….

Sketchbook LXXIV

…yeah…

…so this seemed like a “natural” progression from everything I’ve been doodling leading up to this point …

…and the red and blue?….

…the green and black seem to run out faster in these four colour pens and I’m gonna try and even them out ‘cos I hate it when you run out on two colours and there’s ink to be used…

….(looks forlornly at pile of half used up four colour pens)….

Paintbook 51/52

…um…

…the last few posts from paintbook have been exploring an octopus motif using a palette of 14 colours, 7 “primary” and 7 “pastel”, with a bit of black, white and gold for highlighty bits….

…the general rule being the octopus colour has the corresponding pastel colour for the “suckers” and is three places away from the background colour and outline , “pastel” colour in the spectrum…

…i.e. red tentacle/pink “suckers”…skip orange, yellow, green….blue background and blue “pastel” outline….

…the first “swatch” (2 posts ago) explored all the background/outline combinations with a static tentacle/”sucker” pairing….

….then I wondered…

…what about the rest of the tentacle colour/”pastel” colour variants on all the background colours (not including same colour tentacle/”sucker” with same colour background/outline)….

…fuck….

…that’s where wonderin’ gets you….
