Level 3.2

…remember these?….

…they moved on to be….

…they eventually became…

….repurposed as a New Zealand Music Month vid’ for Dee’s wonderfully catchy tune, “shit fly”…written to celebrate the delightful cloud of short-lived flying things that hover round the outhouse out at Aramoana….

…a fitting end for nearly 100 brooches presented in a custom built carry case for a pre-xmas market thing that didn’t happen….

…(damn…thought I had a bunch of photos of the production lay out…flies all arranged on trays with the “colour guide” post it notes that I used to ensure that none of the flies have the same colour scheme)…

…er…

…here’s some post video shots…..

…maybe they’ll have another market this coming Xmas….

Lockdown 31

….before we get into this I must apologise to Chris for my blatant desecration of his wonderful artwork that graces the cover of the Tiny Pieces of 8 Lp, “She Shanties For Frank”…

…hopefully you can forgive me bro’….

…but….

…I couldn’t resist all that empty space….

…and we had a few extra copies of the screen printed cover floating about….

…and I wanted my copy of the Lp (number 13) to be a little more different than the rest with it’s personalised burnt CD of the early mixes….

…and….um….

….and as my cousin Phil is always fond of saying….

…”you know what would look good on that?….a skull and crossbones, that’s what”….

…there…..admission done…

…now to go find some more empty space….

Process

…receive test pressing of lp in post….

….listen to lp…..

…listen to lp with band….

…say “yes please” to record manufacturer people….

…receive large box of lps….(thank you Holiday Records on so many levels….you guys rock)…..

….open all the boxes…

…mmmm…records….

….make the covers….(we already printed them but “somebody” hadn’t glued ’em up yet)…..

….find booklet you DID prepare earlier…(it’s probably in THAT box)….

…all hand folded and stapled neatly….(sorry no vid’)….

…put them all together….

…oops!…don’t forget to hand stamp the labels (first identifying which side is which)….

…small printing blocks (cheers Tracer) taped together with masking tape may come in handy at this stage…

..place lps in in inners then inners in covers….add booklet…place in outer sleeve…

…and there you have it …

…all ready for the lp release on the 28th September at The Crown Hotel….

Deedrees Rekkid

…celebrated the release of Dee’s new album, “She Shanties For Frank”, a week back…

…wicked gig in a great room (let’s do that again)…didn’t get many (if any) good picks from the back (and under the influence)….but maybe if you know this guy…

…he recorded quite a bit of the gig and took loads of photos….

…anyways….

…last sunset for the weather tree……things were built……shit got real……Tiny Pieces of Eight played under a bridge… …well, next to a bridge, but still my gig of the year….

…then Dee bought me a kitty…

…so I gave kitty an octopus…

…and wrapped it up…

…and gave it back to Dee….

…happy new year….

When The Good Friend Dee Was On Tour

…I had “nothing-better-to-do”….

…so I did some doodling…some plotting out…started a few bits and pieces…

 

…(thank god she was only gone 5 days “that” was getting out of hand).

…to see my good friend Dee’s musical collective, Tiny Pieces Of Eight, perform…

…and perform they did…from free noise to country to funk to wall-of-sound-folk-a-delica…

…they sound awesome, go see ’em…

…then I went thru this door here…

 

…and found way too much beer…

…of course Mr H. was the only thing in focus after awhile…

…sometimes, no matter how messed up you get, you push the button and it works…

…and sometimes…

Tiny Pieces Of 8

…if you didn’t make it out to Chicks Hotel on Sunday to experience the official release of my good friend Deirdre Newall’s CD,Tiny Pieces Of 8, you probably won’t be able to fathom what a stunning performance you missed…

…not even by purchasing the CD (orders being taken in-store at Too Tone Records) and looking at these photos  whilst playing it, will you be able to re-capture the ambiance (om-bee-onse)…

….even Chris & Swampy were worshipping at her feet….

…worth the price of admission just see that.

..good on ya Dee…a damn fine musical artefact.
