When I Arrived At My Designated Relief Area The Other Day

…I was surprised to find that something was hanging across my usual toilet break view…

….could that be?….surely not!…

IMG_5538

…but it is!…lumps of meat, marinated, neatly strung, hung & drying in the winter sun….

IMG_5504

…disturbing…

…but not as disturbing as what the local tauhou (wax-eye) population are doing to it….

…not the intended use, I’m sure, but who knows??…it might be part of an old family recipe!…

…mmmm…bird poop flavour!

…(these photos were accumulated over a 4 day period…holding the camera at arms length above shoulder height in an unlit toilet…the slightest wrong move and the tauhou disappear…these pic’s are less than a quarter of what I took…I would take more but my arms hurt!!).

Hat Not Balls

…way back in the 80s Sedgewick’s hat was supposed to look like Mickey Mouse ears….

Scan 318

…not balls as some would have you believe…

…(to reassure myself that my drawing skills have improved over the intervening years I had a go at drawing them ears again last night…dammit!…they still look like balls).

Reconfiguring The Back Passage

….finally found someone to make and attach the shelving units out the back…

…my regular builder guy stood me up at the beginning of Spring …

…Spring is when EVERYONE finds large quantities of vinyl that has been hidden from view  since the 80s in rarely accessed corners…

…corners that are being turned out because it’s Spring

…so I’ve been living in chaos under a growing pile of new stock for nearly 3 months…

…everything you want is always in the box at the bottom of the pile…

…now the clean up begins…

…and we should be all ship shape, streamlined & sorted in a couple of weeks…

…and should be back to living around, next to & under badly balanced stacks of highly disorganised boxes in about 6 months time…

…let the rumours of “all-the-good-stuff-is-out-the-back” begin…

…yay.

(the sign on the cistern is my original signage from Port Chalmers)

Outside Toilets How I Love Thee

…let me count the ways…IMG_0771

… none..

I will not use them if I must,

I will not use them else I bust,

I’d rather hold on like a dam,

I will not use them Sam you am.

(o.k…. I did add the “unsafe” sign myself)

…and if I really have to….. really, really have to…

…I’ll take a pen to take my mind off the “unpleasantness”…

…this facility is the only down side of visiting my good friend Dee on the weekend…

…sometimes the door needs to be cleared of wind blown sand (and once, a sea lion!) before you can open it…then when you’re in you can, oft times, be confronted with great dunes of gritty beach leavings that need to be swept aside before you can be seated …and then there is the resident cloud of flies that can reach plague proportions at times…. (don’t mention the spider….do not mention the spider) ….not an environment conducive to tasks that need to be actioned urgently….

I am a country boy , but there’s a reason I moved to town…. indoor plumbing.
