…thats what that gallery owner said way back before lockdown….

…took me awhile to realise that nephew Max could be a source for used boards….and when asked at the Xmas brunch table if he had any he immediately left the table for 20 minutes to go find them!….

….and here are the results…

….Cheers Max…

….all boards had the original graphics ground off….stained to look like “real” wood…all skulls “n” bones and graphic edges burnt on with the trusty poker work machine….

…Max decided to go for a ridable option (these three are well thrashed)…and will bring me a fresh board to redecorate….a board we can document the wear and tear on…

….should be interesting….

Last Weeks Mystery Object Explained

…it’s one of these….

….came with this bright idea for containing my paints aaaages ago….and have been using a cardboard mock-up of what I had in mind since then….

….finally got it made when a looming project required an up tick in how many colours I need at my finger tips….

…the paint brush hole was a late add in, necessitated by the fact that I’d no longer have space for a paint brush pot on the edge of my work space after adding the new improved paint box….

…(yes I’m still stalling for time on the big secret project)….

…(and may continue to do so for an unspecified length of “awhile”)…

….repurposed as a New Zealand Music Month vid’ for Dee’s wonderfully catchy tune, “shit fly”…written to celebrate the delightful cloud of short-lived flying things that hover round the outhouse out at Aramoana….

…a fitting end for nearly 100 brooches presented in a custom built carry case for a pre-xmas market thing that didn’t happen….

…(damn…thought I had a bunch of photos of the production lay out…flies all arranged on trays with the “colour guide” post it notes that I used to ensure that none of the flies have the same colour scheme)…

…er…

….before we get into this I must apologise to Chris for my blatant desecration of his wonderful artwork that graces the cover of the Tiny Pieces of 8 Lp, “She Shanties For Frank”…

…hopefully you can forgive me bro’….

…but….

…I couldn’t resist all that empty space….

…and we had a few extra copies of the screen printed cover floating about….

…and I wanted my copy of the Lp (number 13) to be a little more different than the rest with it’s personalised burnt CD of the early mixes….

…and….um….

….and as my cousin Phil is always fond of saying….

…”you know what would look good on that?….a skull and crossbones, that’s what”….

…the last of the completed +oneware that I haven’t shown you yet….

…was kinda saving this one in the vain hope that I’d be able to reveal it to the friend I made it for before sticking on the blog….

…mate Steve is an incurable cricket fan….part of that group of ratbags commonly referred to as The Beige Brigade…and perpetrator of one of the finest crowd catches I’ve had the pleasure to watch on the TV news and now can’t find on the bloody intraweb….

…(hey, Seedy!…send me the link)….

…halfway thru the last cricket world cup (that young Steve spent all his savings and accrued leave on)…(only to come away with memories of New Zealand’s fourth placing)….I started to make this….

…kind of a talisman to point at members of the opposing team in the vain hope that they’ll screw up….

…thinking that it would be a nice house warming gift for him when he got home “with” the trophy….

….note that the beige line work that is next to the darker tan line work is not showing up in these photo’s…shoulda picked a darker beige….(what?)……(also note tricky “round-the-edge” signature….half eaten fruity snack for scale)…

…if only I’d thought of making it before Steve left…the cup could have been ours!….
