Sketchy LXV

….went back thru the sketch book and dug out some patterns I was playing with a few years back….

…the tentacle “motif” is a more contemporary addition….

A Book Of Paint

…….having got sick of trying to squish ever expanding ideas into an A5 sketchbook and (worse) waiting for paint to dry before I could accomodate further “musings” I went out and purchased this A4 paintbook……..

…now I can sketch in paint to my hearts content…

…(when the last coat has dried)….

…here we go….

…cover….

….frontispiece….(alternatively titled “frontispiece in progress” or “the bit where I write notes to self” or “the inside of the cover”)…..

….paint one….

….paint two….

…paint three….

…paint four….

…paint five….

…coming soon…

….the rise of template “B”….

Still Avoiding That Finished Artwork

… gonna build up to it like it was the coolest thing.

…here’s a stray from the “Duck! Duck! Duck! series…. it was tentatively titled “Madonna’s Den Wallpaper”…..Scan 96

…sad eyes… ooo those sad eyes…

… they  almost had me donating to a “support a foreign kid” charity on the TV….

…till I realised the kid on the TV was a NZ kid and my tax dollars were already failing to support him/her…

…sad eyes.

(rest of the “Duck! Duck! Duck!” drawings are handily categorised …. see bottom of page….. avoid sad eye contact)

…sad eyes.

Coelacanths And Unflattering Representations Of New Zealand Politicians

…wow… my longest title so far…and for good reason…Scan 65

…as we move into the next “arc” of the sketchbook we find our intrepid artist exploring the logistics of covering coelacanths with retro wallpaper patterns whilst becoming increasingly incensed with the New Zealand Governments behaviour towards the good citizens of Christchurch….(circa November 2012)

…one minister in particular…

…who, if filled with the right gas, could potentially float away….

…I shan’t name him, but will point out that it is very hard to blend his moniker and the word “ballon” together.

Extrapolate! Extrapolate! Extrapolate!

…so I found myself with a design idea I could run with… who else, in their right mind, would trawl through their sketchbook to find images they could do at 3 different sizes on backgrounds inspired (ripped off?!) from retro wallpaper patterns?….

Scan 31

…. and who, you’re probably not asking, would go on to render it in brush, ink and coloured pencil….

Scan 41

…. these will all (oh yes, there are more) be tagged “Duck! Duck! Duck!” should you feel the need to look at them all at once or join in yourself…..
