At The Behest Of Paul Vincent Lawford

…I break my “what?-is-lockdown-over-and-I-was-so-busy-painting-that-I-didn’t-notice” silence and post….

…the last “octopied” piece I completed before disappearing down the rabbit hole that is my current obsession…

…I’m on the final stretch now…

…one more piece to complete…

…cosmetic tidying up to do…

…the overly complex framing to make

…and then I’ll have some “spare” time….

…maybe I’ll do a post or two…

…no rash promises….

: P

p.s…..thank you Paul for reminding me of my obligations to my wordpress community…without you this would be a blank page!….

Level 3.3

….old timey paint by numbers…check….

….octopus….check….

….identifying signature…check….

…my work here is (was) done (last year)…..

…check…. (check)….

…(cheque please)…..

Level 3.1

….to celebrate moving from level 4 to level 3 (or level 4 with takeaways as I’ve heard it referred to) I have decided to share the end pages of the new sketchbook that are “obscured” by “template B” in the last post….

…( I also realised that the image doesn’t reveal the true nature of any of the pieces that I’m currently wondering why I started in the first place and that there was absolutely no reason to keep this experiment in alternative uses for “template B” under my hat)….

…(oh yes…there’s more than one of the damn “template B” things)…

…(a lot more)….

Lockdown 33

…that’s right…there’s no lockdown 32…

…spent the weekend (a long one to commemorate Anzac day) revisiting the stressful holiday project….

….still stressful….so no photos….

…as of midnight (3 1/2 hours ago) NZ is on level 3….

…not much change for me except a welcome increase in freight volumes and hopefully a return to my usual hours soon….

…having adjusted my body clock to one routine the temporary shift to finishing after I’ve usually eaten dinner and going to bed an hour after I’ve eaten has sucked….

….(I am getting a bucket load of painting done though)….

….(nothing I’m willing to share in its entirety yet)….

…(only some of said things involve “template b”)….

…(and nothing involves any colours called “melting moments”)…..

Lockdown 29

…..noooooooooooooooo…..

….I stocked up on a bunch of test pot colours pre-lockdown (ha!…and you were all buying toilet paper!) for a project that proved too noisy and too stinky (burning +oneware is best done sans house mate, the smell of blazing 70s wood finishes does linger a “bit”) and have run out of “melting moments” one coat shy of the next part of the less noisy, less stinky project I switched to…

…was reduced to adding small quantities of water, leaving to soak and shaking the container violently so as to extract a wan near-water-colour consistency fluid to wash over the piece in the vain hope that I could achieve the cover I needed….

…7 coats later….

IT’S ALL GONE….

AND I’M NOT CONVINCED IT LOOKS “MELTING MOMENTS” ENOUGH….

…and while I can (I think) order more on line, I’d feel like I was abandoning my local paint shop to a post-lockdown wasteland with only test-pots to eat….

…first world lockdown problems….

Lockdown 15

…finished this last year….

…been saving it for a special occasion…

….like having a fruit eating gathering…

…(cancelled)….

…or international bowl day….

…(doesn’t exist)….

…or wearing it on my head because it’s the middle of the night and i’m bored ….

…..(image unavailable in your zone)….

…or celebrating being just over halfway thru lockdown…

…(mmmm….halfway thru lockdown)….

Lockdown 12

…the end of week 2 hoves into sight..I find myself with more time to do creative stuff…still working as an “essential” worker in logistics…unloading 1 truck instead of 3 with a reduced number of forklifts (to save money they have hidden the keys on the fork’ I’m most proficient on!) and with a much later start time (4.30am instead of 1am) because reduction in freight volumes mean the earlier runs have been mothballed for the duration…we’ve been cut to a guaranteed 32 paid hours regardless of wether we work all those hours or not, thanks to the Government’s thoughtful wage subsidy…(can’t afford any frills but am thankful to have enough income to subsist in comfort!)…. finish time is a bit fluid but seems to fall around when I’d normally be having my “evening” meal…(start time coincides to when I’ve adjusted to consuming lunch)….I don’t seem to anything other than a bit more tired than usual (and fucking hungry all the time) so I’m still getting up at around 9.00pm….(gotta stay “in character” for when the trucks start to roll in again)….subsequently when my good friend Dee, who is sheltering in place with me, has shuffled off to bed I have an extra 4 hours to squander on blogging and drawing and painting and burning skulls and crossbones on every surface I can find…

…(was hoping to get sent home on subsidy for the duration, but essential workers can’t be choosers)…. : 0

The Official Title Is

…..”Fat White Jesus Busts Some Light-sabre Moves In The Desert Before Performing The Miracle Of Turning Camel Pats Into Pizzas And Ass Wee Into Wine Beer”……

…but around here we affectionately refer to it as “pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew”…..

…acrylic & pyrography on recycled ply… 450 x 890 sans the re-purposed, “failed” crackle pattern frame…colours by Resenes (yay test-pots!)….

…a big shout out to the all makers of retro paint by numbers for the mesa “guidelines”…..without you this would have been crap…..

Post Hols Photo Heap

…started a few things on holiday…

…a pile of these…(actually one of series of piles)….

…and couple of those…

…got a bit obsessed with “faces” on my palette….

…(they’re looking at me, I swear)….

…Dee came up mid-week and made a poster for her upcoming gig….

…(the one on the left is the one that will be used)…

…(see you there)…

…saw a goat….

…saw it again at night…

…Dee phoned in the sighting….

…(cell phone coverage exists at the water tank)….

…some of the above images are elongated because I may have had the camera switched to vid’ for a day or so after filming this…

,,,bit of a grey day on Friday….

…so we went on our traditional Central Otago charity shop run….

…did rather well…

…as is explained in this short documentary….

….spent the fine days removing bumblebees from the house…

…(…sign says “bug”…but battery died before second shot and didn’t want the wee fellow to be under glass too long)…

….and savoured the fine evenings enjoying the fragrance of the apple blossom…(or is it plum?)….

…all in all a bloody good holiday….

…(did I mention my Pitcairn Island carved flying fish?)…
